Subject: 2% Land Fund
When the people of Hawaii Island formulated the 2% Land Fund, we did it thinking of our island and county's
future. How can we preserve our beautiful island? How can we create places for the people to enjoy? WE
agreed to set aside monies and use them to purchase lands so beautiful they should never be made into condos
or privately held estates.
Please honor the wishes of the people! This fund was not set up to make it easy game for balancing a budget in
difficult times. There are many other tactics that can be employed to tighten your belts. Taking money from
this fund just because it is there doesn't show any management skills on your part. It doesn't show that you are
truly considering the future. NOW may be the very best time to have that fund in place because we may be able
to buy more land at depressed prices. Don't use our land fund to pay for salaries or other budget shortfalls.
That is not what we set it up to be for.
I already wrote to Billy Kenoi and got back a trite letter full of platitudes and excuses written in legalese. Please
stand up for what was mandated and be the voice of the people. We voted for change and we expect you to
carry that through!
Aloha,
Pamela Wang
