Honorable Council Members, It is not often that the voters our island have voted in a ballot initiative. On the 2% for Land fund, the voters were clear: we want to see more lands protected. With the economy as it is, now could be an opportunistic time to purchase lands. With some creativity, a bond issue could really make our tax dollars from the 2% go even further. Not to mention the possibility of matching federal funds as a result of the stimulus package that could help fund new jobs to make these new [ands into parks and recreational areas we so badly need. I encourage you to think outside the box, and rather than look at ways to cut natural resources use this unique time on our history to improve our environment for us and generations to come.
