Re: AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 18. ARTICLE 4, DIVISION 1,
SECTION 18-90, SUBSECTION (H), HAWAPI COUNTY CODE 1983 (2005
EDITION, AS AMENDED), RELATING TO PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
Ordinance No. 07-141 extended the island wide free kokua zone for the Countv of Hawaii Mass
Transportation Division, which allows riders of the Hele on bus tn.ride at no charge through
December 31, 2009.
The Mass Transit Agency's proposed fiscal year 2009-10 operating budget is approximately $4.7
million dollars.
Please find attached an ordinance to amend Chapter 18, article 4, division 1, section 18-90,
subsection (h), Hawaii County Code 1983 (2005 Edition as amended), which creates a $1 fee per
ride for the Hele on bus and extends the Kokua zone program until June 30, 2010. The proposed
amendment would increase revenue for the County of Hawai' i general fund by approximately
$700,000.
