Your Committee on Finance, to which was refened Resolution No. 11, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 11, transmitted jointly with Bill No. 2, by then Finance Committee Chair Elroy
Osorio, via Communication I~Io. 13, dated November 27, 19911, requests cooperation between the
County of Hawaii, State of Hawaii, Bishop Estate/Kamehameha Schools, Queen Liliuokalani
Children Trust Center, the Office of Hawaiian Affairs and the department of Hawaiian Home
Lands to finance the planning, design and construction of a new multipurpose gymnasium at
Hualani Park in Keaukaha.
Resolution No. 1 l states that Kawananakoa Hall, moved to its current site in 1946, still stands
today in dire need of improvements. However, both the Kawananakoa Hall and Hualani Pazk
continue to service approximately 124, 000 people annually for many social and sporting events.
Resolution No. 1 l also states that the estimated cost of planning and constructing the new facility
will be as follows:
Plans & Design $ 250,000.00
Construction 2.500.000.00
Total Funding $ 2,750,000.00
Your Committee recognized the importance of a cooperative effort between the aforementioned
agencies, and anticipates other communities embarking on similar ventures.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 11 and
recommends its adoption.
