Relief Request Malama O Puna, Jr. Lifeguard Program
This memo is to explain my reason for holding off on the Jr. Lifeguard contingency relief
request on March 18, 2009. There was a matter of concern that the Fire Chief brought to
our attention and enclosed please find a letter from Malama O Puna that answered his
concern.

RE: JR..LIFESAVING PROGRAM'-CONTINGENCY MULST
Aloha Emily:
I jua spoke with Chief Oliveira to addresg and clear up the w raised by
Corp Counsel some of which was due to misunderstmrdiug and misinterpretation- He
suggested that I re-submit the request on Malaam O Puts letterhead, sign it as Pres:idettt,
and address some of the 'iffy' pasts, So here it is.
I. 3 rwm buaQys to replace old ones $150
.2. healthy snacks and lunch for 25 students x 3 days $ 150
3. mileage for the assistant coaches $ 60*
4. assistant coaches (3) honorarium $ ISO*
5- outrewh/printtng fljycr (in-house) $ 25
6. 2 foam rescue paddleboards $ 200 .
7_ rental of doubleohull cnae fmm cartage club $ 50
8, rental of Sunkay sailboats from. Yacht Club $ 50
9. final day potluck serving items (plates, ices, etc.) $ 25

" Marls Franklin, who is a County lifeguard with the Firs Dcpt., is voluntnting as
head coach for this program on his days off. He will not be one of those receiving
mileage reimburscmcat. Mark Franklin will not be receiving an honorarium either:.
Therefore, he will not be using his County position in any way for his own
personal/financial benefit. I hope that this darifies the situai4aa and that this
contingency request can now go on toward passage at second reading.
