It is my pleasure to nominate Geraldine M. Giffin from the South Kohala District to the Hawaii
County Leeward Planning Commission. Ms. Giffin is a lifelong resident of Hawaii. She retired
in 1995, after an extensive career as an educator with the Department of Education and the
University of Hawaii at Manoa. Ms. Giffin is currentlya Parker School Trustee. She is also a
former member of the Board of Appeals and the Planning Commission.
Ms. Giffin states that she is a Democrat. If confirmed, she will serve a five year term to end on
December 31, 2013.
Due to the need 4o have the respective planning commissions in place by April 1, 2009, as
required by law, we are respectfully requesting this nomination be waived to the full Council for
its consideration.

RE: Communication No 239 :Nomination of Geraldine M Griffin from the South
Kohala District to the Hawaii County Leeward Planning Commission
Pursuant to Section 2(g) of Rule 4 of the Rules of Procedure of the Council of the County of
Hawaii, this written request is submitted with my approval that the above-referenced matter be
waived from the Planning Committee to the full Council for immediate action. In reviewing this
matter, timely approval is crucial It is therefore advantageous that approval be granted and the
matter be placed onto the next Council agenda for review. However, in the event this request is
denied, for whatever reason, I understand the matter shall be referred to the Planning Committee
for placement on its future agenda.
