Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 29, reports as
follows:
Communication No. 29, transmitted by Mayor Stephen K. Yamashiro, dated
December 10, 1996, nominates Mr. Clarence Mills, of Council District 9, to the Hawaii
County Police Commission.
A life-time resident of Hawaii, Mr. Mills will replace Wray T. Straus, whose term
expired December 31, 1996. Mr. Mills has been with the State Department of Education
since 1966, and is currently the Deputy District Superintendent. He is an active member
in the Waimea Lions Club and has past services with several community organizations.
A registered Democrat, he will serve a term to end December 31, 2001.
Mr. Mills stated that he is comfortable in making the commitment to attend the meetings,
and is familiar with the sunshine law.
Pursuant to Article VII, Chapter 2, Section 7-2.2 of the Hawaii County Charter, the
members of the Police Commission shall be appointed by the mayor and confirmed by
the council in the manner prescribed in Article XIII Section 13-4 of the Hawaii County
Charter.
Your Committee on Finance recommends the approval of the appointment of
Mr. Clarence Mills to the Hawaii County Police Commission.
