ORDINANCE NO.
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 18 OF THE HAWAII COUNTY CODE 1983
(1995 EDITION), RELATING TO PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HA WAIl:
SECTION 1: Purpose and Findings. The Council finds that the taxi industry needs and
desires County enforcement of the regulations governing taxicabs. The purpose of this bill is to
direct the effective use of license fees to fund enforcement of regulations of the taxi industry in
the County of Hawaii. Revenues generated by the annual licensing of taxicabs since inception of
the fees on March 14, 1990, shall be used to offset the cost of enforcement of this chapter.
SECTION 2. Chapter 18, article 2, division 1, section 18-37.1, Hawaii County Code 1983
(1995 Edition), as amended, relating to Taxicab License, is amended by adding the following
section to read as follows:
"(0 Use of Fees.
Annual license fees collected pursuant to this section shall be used exclusively for
enforcement of County taxi industry regulations."
SECTION 3. Material to be added is underscored. In printing this ordinance, the
underscoring need not be included.
SECTION 4. If any provision of this ordinance or the application thereof to any person or
circumstances is held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect other provisions or applications of
the ordinance which can be given effect without the invalid provision or application, and to this
end, the provisions of this ordinance are declared to be severable.
SECTION 5. This ordinance shall take effect upon its approval.
