Appointment of Randall M. Kurohara as County of Hawaii Director of
Research and Development
This is an unsolicited letter in support of the confirmation of Randall M. Kurohara
as the County of Hawai'i's next Director of the Department of Research and
Development. I felt the Committee should know the type of honorable gentleman that
has been nominated to serve our County in this very important cabinet position.
I have known Randy for 31 years and feel I can comment on his professional
background and his personal qualities. Randy and his close-knit family have always
been supporters of small businesses in Hawaii. Kurohara's was a small business icon
in Hawaii Island in the early 1980's. Their successful expansion into today's Creative
Arts is a reminder of the ability and need for small businesses to persevere despite
economic downturns and uncertainty.
In contributing to his family's business, Randy has worked in every position from
janitor, to delivery driver, to his present position as President and owner. These
experiences have made him the humble person he is today. He has a keen sense for
business that will allow him to serve our community. He also has the sensitivity needed
to run a department and manage personnel.
On a personal level, I am proud to call him a friend. His deep personal
commitment to his family, his faith, and his community are evident in the many public
service organizations in which he serves.
Based on the foregoing, it is respectfully requested the Committee favorably
confirm the nomination of Randall M. Kurohara as the Director of the Department of
Research and Development. Thank you for this opportunity to provide input.
