Subject: Proposed Amendments to Resolution No. 81-09 Relating to the Opposition of
House Bill No. 1226 HD 1 on Genetically-Modified Organisms (GMO).
I move to amend Resolution No. 81-09 due to the result of typographic errors as follows:
1. In the first WHEREAS clause, the proposed amendment deletes [Bill 361, Dra# 2] and
inserts "Ordinance No. 08-154", and is to read as follows:
"WHEREAS, [Bill 361, Draft 2 ] "Ordinance No. 08-154," prohibiting tests,
propagation, cultivation, planting, growing or introduction of genetically engineered
(transgenic) taro (kalo) and coffee, was passed by the County Council of Hawaii on
November 13, 2003; and"
2. In the fourth WHEREAS clause, the proposed amendment deletes the word [principals]
and inserts the correct word "principles", and is to read as follows:
"WHEREAS, House Bill No. 1226 HD1 would usurp county authority to set future
agrigultural policy regarding genetically modified organisms and thereby repudiate home
rule principles without just cause; and"
3. In the last WHEREAS clause, the proposed amendment provides the correct year, and is
to read as follows:
"WHEREAS, the County Council of Maui approved Resolution 09-29 on
[Meh 20, 2008] March 20, 2009, which urges opposition to House Bill No. 1226 HD1;
now, therefore,"

4. In the second "BE IT RESOLVED..." clause, the proposed amendment deletes the word
[herby], and insert the correct word "hereby and is to read as follows:
"BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it [herby] hereby urges opposition to House Bill No. 1226, HD 1, in order to
protect and preserve the County's home rule and authority; and"
Proposed amendments are in Ramseyer format, and bolding has been retained for illustrative purposes.
