Subject: 2% Land Fund
Hello: TQl_iN i'i
My concern is regarding the suspension and use of the 2% land fund. I realize and
appreciate the situation you are in regarding budget shortfalls and the tough decisions
you have to make but this is not the place to cut back. You are taking a easy short term
solution with very serious long term consequences for the Island of Hawaii. Things are
tough in my house but I am not raiding my 401K to make ends meet, you need to make the
tough decisions and take advantage of this time to do what needs to be done anyway and
become more efficient in government. In my business I have cut employees hours and
freezed their pay and talked to my employees about ways we can be more efficient. These
changes as well as watching every dime has made the differance for me, some of these
solutions will be in effect long after this recession is over and will save money for
years to come.
The benefit the 2% fund brings to Hawaii Island is not only good for the local residents
but the long term effect on tourism, which we all know brings the dollars we need to the
island.
Do the right thing and don't take the easy way out.
Aloha,
Jeff Fischer
