Subject: RE: Bill 49
Dear Mayor and Council Members,
Re: Bill 49
PLEASE do not take the voice of the people away. WE THE PEOPLE spoke out to assign 2% of OUR
monies to the preservation of OUR lands. The money is not yours to take. We live in a democracy- do
not abrogate our rights.
Economic crises come and go. The land will always be with us. Let's keep it viable, livable, beautiful,
UNDEVELOPED. We do not need to do anything with the lands we buy we just need to obtain them
and hold them as a precious trust for all our descendants. Who wants to live in a parking lot?
Our country is in the financial mess it's in because of GREED and SHORTSIGHTEDNESS. No need to
replicate our country's failings on our island.
We the people have $8.8 million in our fund. Prices are low. NOW is the time to buy and save our
precious lands forever.
Our deficit can be met in other ways. Be imaginative. Suggestions I've heard include:
1. Cut funded but unfilled jobs and save $14-17 million.
2. Invite all county workers to take off one unpaid day a month and save $4-6 million. Or take two and
double that.
3. Sell tax liens on properties that have delinquent taxes.
4. Stop taking home county cars.
Mahalo for listening,
Elfin Sand
