Dear Mr. Yoshimoto and other respected Councilpersons,

Mike Gleason I am Mary Begier, current chairperson of the Government Affairs Committee of the
Treasurer Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce. We represent over 365 companies and 700
Jon Miyata members. We speak against proposed opposition to HB 1226-HD I by this body.
Past President We have testified before you in the past that we believe that there existed the
Robert Williams opportunity for all persons to sit down together and work out their issues or feelings of
concern as they relate to Genetically Engineered Plant Organisms. We still believe
Directors that is the case. We are in support of HB 1226 HD 1. Traditionally the Chamber
Howard Ainsley advocates for home rule. We usually don't want the state to tell the county what to do
Vaughn Cook but in this instance we feel we have missed an opportunity here at the county level.
Please allow the people of each and every community to continue their dialogue.
Charles Ensey Passage of HB 1226 HDI will do that.

Judith Fox-Goldstein We attended the presentation by Pamela C. Ronald & Raould Adamchak of their
Gary Fujihara research for the book Tomorrow's Table. She is a biologist and he is an organic
farmer. They are research professors at UC Davis. Their presentation was attended by
Jan Higashi many of the same people that have been before you testifying in support and
Randy Kurohara opposition of Bill 361. It was interesting to learn that one of the sources of
warren Lee information that was provided over and over as we worked on Bill 361 in favor of
Burry Mizuno prohibition was held in dispute by these research professors and they provided the
Irene Nagao proof to us in the presentation. This was eye/mind-opening information.
Robert Charles Porter It is imperative that we continue to dialogue on matters such as this and not have any
Marcia Sakai further legislation of the kind that Bill 361 created. For that reason we support HB
Alice Sledge 1226 HDI and ask that you do the same.
