Ladies and Gentlemen of the Hawaii County Counci
Greetings:
I want to go on record as favoring Councilman Pete
Hoffman's resolution opposing the GHO Pre-emption Bill (HB
1226). The legislature is nominally Democratic, but passing
this legislation, favored by large corporations that set their
legal bullies loose on small farmers when GMO genes show up
in their crops, puts them in league with the most arrogant
Republican apologists for corporate greed.
The Big Island has a thriving small farming community, with
traditional varieties of taro, and coffee, and organic produce of
all sorts. GMOs introduction here would sweep away Hawaii
County's reputation as an island of specialty foods.
Please vote yes on Mr. Hoffman's resolution.
