Dear Chair Yoshimoto and Members of the Hawaii County Council:
RE: Ureing Opposition of Resolution 81-09
"fire Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of I-Iawaii ("JCCIH") is an organization
representing over 200 Last Hawaii businesses employing thousands of residents. We have
previously submitted testimony in opposition of Bill 361. Today we wish to respectfully request
your opposition of Resolution 81-090 as we are strongly in support of passage of FIB 1226 HD I
currently before our state Legislature.
At the time that Bill 361 was under your consideration, we believed strongly that you had a
special opportunity to bring the parties on all sides of the issues regarding genetically engineered
organisms together in a process to work out a mutually amicable solution to the debate.
However, passage of Bill 361 effectively stopped this process and this opportunity to the County
Council was lost. However, the JCCIH believes that this opportunity exists at other levels, in
other counties and within our state. Therefore, we wish to allow all interested parties on this
issue to continue their dialogue. The passage of HB 1226 HD I will accomplish this goal. For
this reason, we are respectfully asking that you decline Resolution 81-09 which opposes HB
1226 FIDl.
