Subject: I support Hawaii County Council Resolution 81-09
1 support Resolution 81-09 and your efforts as a Council to protect and preserve our rights of Home Rule
and self governance.
I am very upset and equally concerned that the State Legislature is trying to preempt the will of citizens
living on the Big Island and Maui. We all went through a very difficult process on the GMO issue. We all
became more aware of the risks involved in this emerging technology and we decided to be cautious. I
would feel better if there were long term safety studies on GMO foods and if labels were required for
human and animal food ingredients and seeds stocks for farmers. It is a matter of choice and personal
freedom.
If HB1226 is allowed to pass into law what good are our efforts to govern locally. This is a very disturbing
situation that erodes our rights and undermines confidence in the process of government.
I appreciate the Hawaii County Council. As a group the Council still listens to the wishes of the people,
as opposed to our State and Federal governments who tend to represent those with influence, money
and paid lobbyist.
Mahalo for your dedication to the people of Hawaii Island.
