It has been brought to my attention that there is currently a Bill that is being considered by the State Legislature HB 1226. 1 am strong opposition to this bill & thoroughly support the Resolution No. 81-09 urging OPPOSITION to the "GMO Pre-emption Bill". I believe that HB 1226 "would usurp county authority to set future agricultural policy regarding genetically modified organisms and thereby repudiate home rule principles without just cause." As an island community, we should be encouraging organic agriculture free from experimental seed contamination. Kona Coffee is an important part of Hawaii agriculture in a global marketplace. Losing the quality status of Kona Coffee with tainted GMO seeds would be an absolute disaster for Hawaii Island... already hurting from the economic recession. I encourage the county council to listen to it's agricultural community & back Resolution No. 81-09. Sincerely, jamie gilmore Waiohinu, HI 96772 Comm. No. 2-S .4 Z Ref. To: Preseefed Ref.
