As a consumer and supporter of healthy food and agricultural practices in Hawaii, I
strongly urge you to oppose H.B. 1226 and any law prohibiting or preventing the state or
county from regulating GMOs in Hawaii. Community and consumer safety is endangered when
local governments are prohibited from taking every step to ensure public safety.
I live in Pana'ewa and work very hard to grow organic foods in our garden for our family.
To think that large, unfeeling, profit-motivated corporations like Monsanto could go
unchecked in my back yard is unacceptable.
To sign any bill that gives away our rights to maintaining the sanctity of our food
supply is short-sighted at best, irresponsible, dangerous, and deadly perhaps, at worst.
Please know that GMO's simply cannot be 'safe'. Many people are not aware of how they
actually modify a cell in the process. In order to break through a cell wall, scientists
must use something very strong. In some cases, they have used e-coli for this purpose.
Think of it...can produce that has e-coli or some other heinous bacteria or virus in every
cell actually be good for humans??!! Until you know the real science behind this no
one should be exposed to GMO's. And not only should these GMO producers be kept under
watch they should be banned! There is nothing wrong with natural, organic foods.
Protect all people. DO NOT GIVE AWAY HOME RULE!
