Bill to Amend Chapter 5 and Chapter 21 of the Hawaii County Code;
Relating to the Use of a Tent or Similar Structure as a Temporary
Residence.
Attached is a bill for an ordinance amending chapter 5, article 1, section 5-1.0.8 and chapter 21,
article 2, section 21-5 of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2005 Edition, as amended) to allow
people to live in a temporary structure while building their homes.
This exception will be allowed if the property owner has an active building permit and provides
adequate sanitation, and for a period of three years from the date of the building permit's
issuance. Further, this exception applies only to property one acre or larger with a district zoning
classification of (A) Agricultural, (FA) Family Agricultural, (IA) Intensive Agricultural, or (RA)
Residential and Agricultural.
Please refer this matter to the appropriate committee to meet on May 5, 2009.
