SUBJECT: Request for Waiver of Resolution No353 , A Resolution for Acceptance of a
Gift of Seven (7) Automatic External Defibrillators to the Hawaii County Fire
Department from Mr. and Mrs. Earl Bakken
Pursuant to Section 1(e) of Rule 4 of the Procedure of the Council of the County of Hawaii, I am
requesting your support for waiver of attached Resolution No353 from your Committee on
Finance for consideration by the full Council at its next meeting. Said resolution authorizes the
acceptance of a gift of seven (7) automatic external defibrillators to the Hawaii County Fire
Department from Mr. and Mrs. Earl Bakken.
Waiving said resolution from the Committee on Finance will expedite the receipt of this gift and
subsequent training by fire department personnel in this critical life-saving portable technology.

SUBJECT: Recommended Waiver of Resolution No353, A Resolution for Acceptance of a
Gift of Seven (7) Automatic External Defibrillators to the Hawaii County Fire
Department from Mr. and Mrs. Earl Bakken
Pursuant to Section 1(e) of Rule 4 of the Procedure of the Council of the County of Hawaii,
written approval is hereby submitted in regards to Resolution No.3-5-3 introduced by
Councilmember John Ray, authorizing the acceptance of a gift of seven (7) automatic external
defibrillators to the Hawaii County Fire Department from Mr. and Mrs. Earl Bakken.
Waiving said resolution from the Committee on Finance will expedite the receipt of this gift and
subsequent training by fire department personnel in this critical life-saving portable technology.
In reviewing the contents of the referral, it is deemed advisable that such a waiver be granted.
