RESOLUTION NO. 142 09
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S)
WHEREAS, the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization
will be holding the first ever "Performing and Visual Arts Camp" for 8-14 year old childred of
the Big Island; and
WHEREAS, this camp, held from June 29, 2009 to July 3, 2009, will feature, at the end
of the workshop, a performance of "Stories from the Jungle Book"; and
WHEREAS, this workshop was created because extensive research has shown that at-
risk youth involved in music and performing arts do better at school, more likely to progress to
college, and less prone to drug abuse or to gang participation; and
WHEREAS, Hawaii Performing Arts Festival will act as fiscal sponsors for the
Performing and Visual Arts Camp; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to
the Department of Research and Development to be used towards the Performing and Visual
Arts Camp to offer scholarships for eight local keiki to participate in this program; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred and appropriated as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall forward a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Research and Development and the Director of Finance and that the
Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the
terms of this Resolution.
