A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S).
WHEREAS, the Hilo Orchid Society, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, has the largest
orchid show in the State of Hawaii and has held this annual event for the past 56 years; and
WHEREAS, this year's 57`h Annual Hilo Orchid Society Show is scheduled for
August 7-9, 2009, at the Edith Kanaka`ole Multi-Purpose Stadium; and
WHEREAS, approximately 10,000 people from various parts of the State and mainland
are expected to attend this three-day event; and
WHEREAS, this event provides demonstrations on orchid culture and allows
commercial and amateur growers of Hawaii County to exhibit their orchids; and
WHEREAS, people are also given the opportunity to purchase orchids that are not
usually available to the general public; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development will accept contingency relief
funds to be used specifically for the support of amateur orchid growers to help develop their
business skill sets so that they might make contact with future buyers of their products; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 3 will be appropriated to
the Department of Research and Development to be used towards the 57~~' Annual Hilo Orchid
Society Show to help defray expenses related to the exhibitions of amateur orchid growers; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED-BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall forward a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Research and Development and the Director of Finance, and that the
Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the
terms of this resolution.
