RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE OFFICE OF THE MAYOR TO ENTER
INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH THE HAWAII 50t" ANNIVERSARY OF
STATEHOOD COMMISSION, PURSUANT TO HRS 46-7, FOR FUNDING
OF STATEHOOD COMMEMORATIVE EVENTS FOR HAWAII COUNTY
WHEREAS, on August 21, 1959, President Dwight Eisenhower makes Hawaii
Statehood official by signing the proclamation that welcomes Hawaii as the 50th state
of the union; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii 50~h Anniversary of Statehood Commission has planned
a comprehensive year-long series of events and activities to honor the 50`h anniversary
of Hawai'i's admission to the Union; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii 50~h Anniversary of Statehood Commission will be
providing funding to support costs associated with dedicated commemorative events
being planned for Hawaii County; and
WHEREAS, the Commission's focus has always been on education, therefore
they envision that these activities will provide not only fun and entertainment, but also
an enlightening experience for all the people of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, Hawaii Revised Statutes, Section 46-7, requires that county
departments obtain the consent of the council to enter into agreements with the federal
or state governments respecting action to be taken pursuant to any of the powers
granted by law to furnish, expend, and receive any funds or other assistance in
connection with projects being or to be undertaken pursuant to those powers.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII, in accordance with section 46-7, Hawaii Revised Statutes, that the Mayor of the
County of Hawaii is authorized to execute, on behalf of the County, an agreement and
related documents with the Hawaii 50`h Anniversary of Statehood Commission to enable
the County to receive funds for Statehood commemorative events being planned for
Hawaii County.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk of the County of Hawaii
shall transmit copies of this resolution to the Office of the Mayor and the Department of
Finance.
