The Hawai'i 50th Anniversary of Statehood Commission will be providingV4O,000 to support costs associated with dedicated commemorative events being planned for Hawai'i County. The Commission's focus has always been on education, therefore they envision that these activities will provide not only fun and entertainment, but also an enlightening experience for all the people of Hawai'i. Enclosed is a resolution to authorize the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the Hawai'i 50th Anniversary of Statehood Commission for the funding. Also enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating these monies into the Statehood Commemoration account. Since the Statehood anniversary is in a few months, we are asking for a waiver from the Finance Committee and to have this resolution and bill heard at the next Council meeting on May 6, 2009.
