RESOLUTION NO. ~~~ ~~
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) AND CREDITING SAME TO
A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S)
WHEREAS, Palekana Kai was established in 2004 by two certified lifeguards, with the
mission to educate community youth about ocean safety while providing opportunities and
alternative activities that build these young adults' confidence, self-esteem, motivation and
lifelong respect for ocean and the skills needed to enjoy the ocean; and
WHEREAS, Palekana Kai is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization whose five members
are experienced lifeguards who volunteer their time to conduct ocean safety classes for youth
from the Districts of North Hilo (Hamakua~Coast), Hilo, Puna, Kea`au and Mountain View;
and
WHEREAS, students between the ages of 6-14 participate in a basic ocean safety
course and earn certificates upon completion; students ages 15-18 are eligible for the next level
of training which includes CPR/First Aid/AED and ocean rescue; and students ages 16 and
above have the opportunity to earn a Lifeguard Certificate; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to
the Hawaii Fire Department to support Palekana Kai's efforts to purchase and update its
training equipment; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVEll BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:

BE [T FINALLY 12ESOLVED that the County Clerk shall forward a copy of this
resolution to the Fire Chief and Director of Finance and that the Director of Finance is hereby
authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this resolution.
