To whom it may concern
I have known Dr. Dick Creagan for more than 20 years. We have been neighbors in
Kiolaka'a in Kau for more than 10 years. Dick has been a terrific friend and citizen of
Kau and Hawaii. Always willing to help his neighbors or projects and offer advice to
newer people, always interested in what's good for Naalehu, Pohala, Waihinou and the rest
of Kau. For about 20 years he has been an anchor that many other depend on and look up
to.
I also know Dr. Creagan as a physician. As a practicing wildlife veterinarian I know
something about medicine and know Dick has an excellent medical mind. For years he worked
and an emergency care doctor in Kona. Although he has been retired from medical practice
for some time now, when asked he has provided his friends and neighbors with good advice
on medical problems and has shown tremendous compassion for older neighbors who are ill,
suffering or approaching the end of their lives.
Dick is very bright. He went to Yale for medical school and worked in biomedical research
in California where I first met him briefly about 30 years ago. He is always thinking
about how things might be done better and more efficiently. Just exactly the kind of
person we should want representing us on the steering committee.
I am not sure why Mr. Enriques has chosen to oppose Dr. Creagan's selection for the
steering committee or why he has implied Dr. Creagan is not who he is, that is for Mr.
Enriques to explain. All I can tell you is that Richard Creagan is a fine man, a good
neighbor, a long time resident of Kau and Kiolaka'a, someone who loves Hawaii and has
done his best to help improve local services and community, is indeed a now retired but
still licensed physician, and that he would do an excellent job guiding and representing
us.
If you would like to speak to me further I can be reached at 831-212-7009 or this e-mail
address.
