I could not send with provided address counciltestimony@co.hawaii.hi.us. To Whom It May Concern, I'm a resident of Waiki'i Ranch.and have been driving Saddle Road for approximately 17 years. During this time, I've personally been forced off the road countless times due to careless drivers who either don't know the road, (or choose to ignore the various posted warning signs), immense potholes, and inadequately repaired shoulders. I've many witnessed many accidents, both civilian and military. About three years ago, I personally pulled a female tourist out of a vehicle that didn't make the turn at one of the gulches before the vehicle exploded in flames. It took way too long for the ambulance to arrive and we had to rely on the goodness of neighbors to control traffic until help arrived. I have corresponded and communicated with both Bruce McClure and the local county office in Waimea about the dangerous condition of Saddle Road. To my knowledge, there has been no comprehensive plan to address this critical situation. Recently, the situation has worsened due to increased cross-island traffic commuting The other day, my husband was forced off the road right before one of the gulches and almost lost control of his vehicle. The driver coming up the hill did not stop at the yield sign ( which is too close to the bridge) and almost ran into him. It seems there must be liability issues for the county, if it is aware of a perilous situation and does nothing to remedy it. I urge the responsible agencies to coordinate their efforts to get the road repaired, so all Hawaii Island residents AND tourists can drive safely, and without fear, on Saddle Road.
