Subject: Written Testimony: Resolution 88-09 I r
COUNTS c F'C,Vy91(I
To all concerned:
As a current property owner of lot 16 in the Waiki'i Ranch immediately adjacent to Saddle Road, I can
tell you that improving the safety on this road is a serious liability concern for the County of Hawai'i,
the citizens of the Big Island, visiting tourists and everyday people living at the Ranch. This ill
maintained road right next to my property is a very serious safety problem.
Part of the reason that the entire Saddle Road is and was such a danger is because of the grossly
inadequate road surface, both in terms of lack of maintenance and in terms of unacceptable road
standard compliance. It's no small wonder that most of Saddle Road is being completely replaced.
While the bulk of the Saddle Road will someday be fully repaved, redesigned and re-routed, the
portion of Saddle Road from the Mamalahoa Highway to mile marker 45 is slated for NO SUCH
replacement. This extremely narrow and quite dangerous almost 1 lane road will continue to be a
major hazard for all who travel on it. The number of potholes that drivers have to swerve around, plus
the narrowness of the road, plus the periodic cloud/fog banks that can appear at this altitude make
this route exceptionally DANGEROUS for any travelers
Please consider this written testimony, my full support for Resolution 88-09 relating to the paving of
the Kohala District portion of Saddle Road. Given the clear and present danger to all concerned, this is
an excellent use of the Economic Stimulus funding and I fully support listing this Public Works project
on the official project candidate list. In addition, funding this project will bring jobs and desperately
needed opportunity to the citizens of Hawai'i during this time of severe economic turmoil.
For all these reason, please help support this Resolution.
Mahalo,
