RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF PUBLICLY FUNDED ELECTIONS FOR HAWAII COUNTY
COUNCIL ELECTIONS
WHEREAS, The 2007 -2008 University of Hawai' i at Hilo Student Association (UHHSA) passed a
resolution in support of publicly funded elections for Hawaii County Council elections; and
WHEREAS, over two- hundred University of Hawaii at Hilo students signed a petition in favor of
actualizing publicly funded elections for Hawaii County Council elections; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii State Legislature has recently introduced legislation that would delay and /or
negate previous legislation that enacted a pilot program for publicly funded elections for Hawaii County
Council races;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII AT HILO
STUDENT ASSOCIATION, that we call upon the Legislature of the State of Hawaii and the
Hawaii County Council to support publicly funded elections for Hawaii County Council races and
cease to promote legislation that would delay and /or negate previous legislation.
SECTION 2) The Senate authorizes the Executive Committee to research this appropriation. The Senate
recommends the preparation and submission of a requisition for this appropriation by the Treasurer.
