RESOLUTION NO. 185 09
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S).
WHEREAS, Hilo Medical Center Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization,
supports the health care of our community and its visitors by assisting Hilo Medical Center
develop its capabilities through volunteerism, community education, and financial support; and
WHEREAS, the Hilo Medical Center Foundation created "The Rural Family Practice
Residency Program" as more physicians are needed to care for our growing and aging population
on the Hawaii Island; and
WHEREAS, one of the Hilo Medical Center Foundation's goals is to train young
physicians as Family Practitioners, specializing rural medicine; and
WHEREAS, annually six physicians will graduate and six new physicians will enter the
program; and
WHEREAS, the Hilo Medical Center Foundation along with the Community Healthcare
Action Taskforce and the Kona Community Hospital Foundation are working together to keep
this program alive; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to
the Hawaii Fire Department to help fund the "Rural Family Practice Residency Program" at the
Hilo Medical Center.Foundation; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall forward a copy of this
resolution to the Fire Chief and the Director of Finance, and that the Director of Finance is
hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this resolution.
