Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 73-09, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 73-09, transmitted jointly with Bill 55 by Finance Director Nancy Crawford, via
Communication No. 208, dated March 19, 2009, authorizing the Office of the Mayor to enter into an
agreement with the State of Hawaii Department of the Attorney General, pursuant to HRS 46-7, for the
Hawaii County Police Department Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE) program.
The State of Hawaii Department of the Attorney General's Crime Prevention and Justice Assistance
Division has authorized a $24,193 Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE) Training Grant to the
Hawaii County Police Department. The grant's goal is to improve the department's ability to respond to
violent crimes against women, primarily sexual assault with associated intimate partner violence, physical
abuse, and homicide. This will be accomplished by providing updated specialized training for the SAFE
personnel.
There was no discussion on this matter.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 73-09, and
recommends its adoption.
