Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 74-09, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 74-09, transmitted by Finance Director Nancy Crawford, via Communication No. 209,
dated March 17, 2009, authorizes the acceptance of a donation of three shipping containers by Matson
Navigation Company to be used by Civil Defense, State of Hawaii Department of Health, and the
American Red Cross to store disaster relief supplies. The containers are valued at $9,500.
Pursuant to Article XIII, Section 13-12, Hawaii County Charter, the Council, on behalf of the County,
may accept gifts or donations of personal property.
A letter of appreciation will be sent to Matson Navigation Company, P.O. Box 899, Honolulu, Hawaii
96808, acknowledging this generous donation.
Councilmember Ford asked where containers would be stored. Civil Defense Administrator Quince
Mento stated they would be stored in Hilo at the Civil Defense Wharehouse
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 74-09, and
recommends its adoption.
