To: Planning Commission Members
I would like to offer my support of Mr. Chris Manfredi to be appointed to the Planning
Commission.
I have known Chris for over five years now and consider him to be of outstanding
character and ethics. He carefully considers the effects of land planning decisions and
weighs the potential benefits to the community as well as possible adverse effects.
He has been an outstanding proponent of Ka'u Coffee and though his personal dedication
to the farmers he has put Ka'u "on the map". Ka'u is considered one of the premier
coffee growing areas in the world and that is because Chris made the personal sacrifice to
promote the farmers and their product.
Chris represents a fairly large ownership of land in Ka'u. I do not see any conflict here
as Chris' ethics transcend any personal benefit. In addition to his good character, the
rules of the commission would disclose any conflict of interest in dealings regarding the
lands he represents and he would recuse himself from the vote.
I think you will find an energetic, dedicated, knowledgeable and communicative person
in Chris. He will be asset to the Planning Commission.
