Dear Representatives for the People of the Island of Hawaii,

The 20 Land Fund that was passed and approved by the tax payers in the fall of 2006
requires you folks to purchase land for the purpose of preservation for future
generations. It also requires a vote back to the people in order to use this money other
than what the original intent was.

This Tuesday, April 21 at 11:00, at the Sheraton Keahou in Kona, the FINANCE COMMITTEE
will discuss which lands to acquire with the $8.8 million in the 20 Land Fund. Please
plan to testify OR email to the
council- email list to cut and paste below. Why is this important? We are concerned that
the 2% fund will be raided to make the budget shortfall.
INFORMATION:
In November 2006, 57% of voters voted to set aside 2% of our property taxes to purchase
land.
Only Waipio Lookout and part of Kawa Bay has been purchased.
The County needs to do what voters have asked- BUY LAND. COMFrL No.

Bill 49- which suspends the 2% fund payments for 2 years will be heard on Wednesday at
10:30 at the Sheraton. I will be sending another email with talking points tomorrow.
PLEASE SUPPORT BILL 106- We have been working with Council member Pete Hoffmann who has
introduced Bill 106: These properties have significant cultural sites, this resolution
instructs the county to begin negotiations on these properties (in no particular order)
which are actively listed with real estate brokers for sale:
Pao'o in North Kohala
Kaiholena in North Kohala and adjacent to Pao'o Puapua'a in Kona In Bill 105, introduced
by the County Clerk, although these properties are all worthy of acquisition, it is
proposed that the priorities be:
Kawa Bay ( was negotiated on by the County, but because they did not act quickly, the
prices dropped and the Seller was unwilling to sell at the much lower price).
Pao'o- the Seller is willing to sell
Honolulu Landing- not actively for sale
Waiele- not actively for sale
Puapua'a- actively listed for sale.
