Aloha,
I'm Nathan Clark and I responsibly enjoy the effects of cannabis medically and spiritually.
Mayor Kim and the federal government could find a worthy cause to spend taxpayer
money on. How about education for starters?
The fact that Mayor Kim is even seeking and proposing to spend money on marijuana
eradication in Resolution 565-08 and Bill 269 shows that he believes in supporting a
police state where the civil liberties of the citizens are ignored. A vote to fund Green
Harvest supports communism. The Communist Manifesto teaches the citizens to give up
their rights for the sake of the "common good," but it always ends in a police state.
Control is the key concept. Where people are in fear of the government, you have
tyranny; where the government fears the people, you have liberty.
On December 18*, 180 Abraham Lincoln said: "Prohibition will work great injury to the
cause of temperance. It is a species of intemperance within itself, for it goes beyond
reason in that it attempts to control a man's appetite by legislation and makes a crime out
of things that are not crimes. A Prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon
which our government was founded."
To paraphrase Ron Paul, a result of this prohibition has been the corruption of many law-
enforcement officials. With profit incentives so high, we are not even able to keep drugs
out of our prisons. Turning our communities into prisons would not bring success to this
failed drug war. Sinister motives of the profiteers and gangsters, along with prevailing
public ignorance, keeps this futile war going. Government violence against nonviolent
users is notorious and has led to the unnecessary prison overpopulation. Innocent
taxpayers are forced to pay for all this so-called justice.
I am also a victim of the drug war. The door to my home was destroyed by a battering
ram at 6 am last November and I awoke to a group of guys in full commando gear
standing over me with their guns aimed at me. I was even being polite to the intruders and
cooperated. There was intentional and excessive damage when to the property as well as
undocumented removal of property.
Because I am a licensed minister, the state has a Defense to Promoting pursuant to the
Hawaii Penal Code, Section 712-1240.1. "It is a defense to prosecution for any offense
defined in this part that the person who possessed or distributed the dangerous, harmful or
detrimental drag did so under authority of law as a practitioner, as an ultimate user of the
drug pursuant to a lawful prescription, or as a person otherwise authorized by law." But it
wasn't honored in my case and I could spend }rears in prison away from my wife and son
because it was in my heart to help people acquire a beneficial plant.
I provided marijuana for legitimate medical marijuana card holders and card carrying
members of the THC-Ministries. I didn't administer cannabis to kids. Upon informing the
officers that the use of cannabis was a necessary aspect of my spirituality and that I would
