Ordinance No. 70
AN ORDINANCE TO PROVIDE FOR
THE NUMBERING OF LOTS AND
BIIILDINGS WITHIN THE CITY
OF HH.O, COUNTY OF HAWAII.
Be it ordained by the Board of 6up-
ervisors Sn and for the County of Ha-
waii, Territory of Hawaii.
Regulated By Whom:
Section 1. The Chairman of the
Board of Supervisors is authorized,
directed and empowered to immedi-
ately procure a map or a series of
maps showing the streets of the City
of Hilo, County of Hawaii, which map
shall be designated as the BUILDING
NUMBER MAP FOR THE CITY OF
HILO, and shall be retained in the
office of the Chairman and shall be
accessible to all persons for the pur-
poses of this ardfnance.
The Chairman shall cause all lots
abutting on said streets to be desig-
nated on said map by number so that
all buildings now or hereafter to be
erected upon said lots may bear the
number of the lot upon which it
stands
Main Entrances Numbered:
Section 2. All main entrances
from streets to buildings shall bear
the number of the lot or lots on
which it stands according to the de-
signation and map provided for in
section 1, oY this ordinance.
Ditty To A111x Nmnbers:
Section 3. It shall be the duty of
the owner, occupant, lessee, subles-
see and tenant-at-will oP any such
building in the City of Hila to obtain
from the said map the number of lot on
which the building stands and to affix
to the main entrance of such building
substantial and permanent numbers
consisting of figures not less than 2i/z
inches in height of a color dlHerent
from the background on which they
are placed, which numbers shall be
plainly visible from the street; and
hereafter when any new building
shall be erected in the said city of
Hilo, such building shall have affixed
to it by its owner, occupant, lessee,
sub-lessee and tenant-at-will, the
number oP the lot on which it stands
within one week after its completion.
Penalty For Neglect To Aix Number:
Section 4. Any such owner, oc-
cupant, lessee, sub-lessee and tenant-
at-will who shall fail to so afIlx the
designated number of his lot to the
building on which it stands, on or
before March 1st, 1916, or on any new
building to be hereafter erected, who
shall fail to so affix such num. bar
wlthfn one week after the completion
oP the building, shall, upon conviction
of the Proper court, be fined by such
court the sum of not less than $5.00
and not more than $15.00 and a fis-
ther penalty in a like sum for ove.~
two weeks thereafter during which he
shall neglect, fail or refuse to proper-
ly affix such number to such building.
Penalty For Defacing Or Injuring:
Section 5. Any person who shall
remove or deface any number or part
thereof without immediately restor-
ing it which number shall have been
theretofore affixed to such building in
accordance with the provlsfons of this
ordinance; and any such owner, oc-
cupant, lessee, sub-lessee and tenant-
at-will who shall Pall to forthwith re-
place such number after the same
shall have been removed or defaced
shall upon conviction be fined not less
than $2.00 and not more than $10.00.
Section 6. This Ordinance shall
take effect from and after the date of
its approval.
