Ordinance No. 77
AN ORDINANCE to amend Ordin-
ance No. 64 of the County of Hawaii,
Territory of Hawaii, entitled: An
Ordinance providing for the Regis-
tration and Identiftcation Of Motor
Cars; the examination of the certifi-
cation of Chauffeurs, fees for regis-
tration and chauffeur's certificate
an providing penalties for the viola-
tion of this ordinance and repealing
al] ordinances and parts of ordin-
ances in conflict herewith.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD
OF SUPERVISORS IN AND FOR
THE COUNTY OF HAWAII:
Section 1. Ordinance No. 64 of
the County of Hawaii, is hereby
amended by adding ther~o a new
section to be known as Section 19A
and to read as follows:
Section 19a. Temporary Chauf-
feur's Certificate. Upon the appli-
cant's having shown to the Examiner
of Chauffeurs that he is a suitable
person to operate the type of Motor
Car he desires to operate the Ex-
aminer shall issue to such applicant
a Temporary Chauffeur's certificate
signed by him. Such certificate shall
be good for a period of four months
from the date of issue and shall con-
tain the date of its issue, the name,
nationality, sex and age of the per-
son examined by the Examiner and
shall certify that such person has
been found oompetent to operate (1)
a Motor Car propelled by steam
power or (2) a Motor Car propelled
by electricity or B) a Motor Car
propelled by gasolene or other power
of a similar character or (4) that
such person is competent to operate
Motor Cars of types propelled by two
or more of the said enumerated
kinds of power.
At any time within the said period
of four months a Temporary Chauf-
feur's Certificate shall be cancelled
by the Examiner of Chauffeurs if the
person holding such Temporary
Chauffeur's Certificate is found to be
careless, or operating a Motor Car
while intoxicated or involved in an
accident through the unskillful
handling of a Motor Car or disre-
garding the rules, regulations and
ordinances of the County pertaining
to Motor Cars.
Any person whose Temporary
Chauffeur's Certificate has been can-
celled by the Examiner of Chauffeurs
shall not be entitled to a reexamina-
tion for a Chauffeur's Certificate for
a period of three months from the
date of the cancellation of his Tem-
orary Chauffeur's Certificate.
Section 2. Section 20 of Ordin-
ance No. 64 of the County of Hawaii,
is amended so as to read as follows:
Section 20. Permanent Chau-
ffeur's Certificate. Any person hold-
ing a Temporary Chauffeur's Certifi-
cate shall, when such certificate ex-
pires, apply to the Examiner of
Chauffeur's for a Permanent Chauf-
feur's Certificate and if the Examiner
finds such person to have been a
careful and competent operator of
Motor Cars and to have observed the
rules, regulations and ordinances of
the County pertaining to Motor Cars,
he shall issue to such person a per-
manent Chauffeur's Certificate signed
by him. Such certificate shall con-
tain the date of its issue, the name,
nationality, sex and age of the per-
son examined by the Examiner and
shall certify that such person has
been found suitable to operate (D
a Motor Car propelled by steam
power or (2) a Motor Car propelled
by eleotricity or B) a Motor Oar
propelled by gasolene or other power
of a similar charaoter or (4) that
such person is competent to operate
Motor Cars of types propelled by two
or more of the said enumerated
kinds of power. There shall be no
fee charged for the examination for
a Permanent Chauffeur's Certificate.
Section 3. This Ordinance shall
take effect from and after the date
of its approval.
