AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND OR-
DINANCE 104 OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII RELATING TO THE
REGULATION OF TRAFFIC IN
THE COUNTY OF HAWAII BY
AMENDING SECTION 23, RE-
LATING TO THE DESIGNATION
OF PASSENGER AND LOADING
ZONES, INCLUDING BUS
STOPS; AND REPEALING SEC-
TION 24 THEREOF AND ADD-
ING ANEW SECTION IN LIEU
OP` SECTION 24 RESTRICTING
MOTOR VEHICLE COMMON
CARRIERS OF PASSENGERS
(BUSSES) IN THEIR OPERA-
TION UPON AND USE OF THE
STREETS OF THE CITY OF
HILO.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD
OF SUPERVISORS IN AND FOR
THE COUNTY OF HAWAII:
Section I. Section 23 (a) is hereby
amended to read as follows:
'Yll. The Board of Supervis-
ors may by resolution designate
the location of passenger zoaea
and loading zones, including bus
stops, and shall erect and main-
tain or cause to be erected and
maintained appropriate signs in-
dicating the same.
Section II. The provisions of Sec-
tion 24 are hereby repealed.
Section III. Section 24 shall be
entitled and read as follows:
"Section 24. Restrictions on
the operation of busses.
"a. Within the City of Hilo,
the operator of a motor vehicle
common carrier of passengers
(bus) shall not stand or park
such vehicle upon any street for
the purpose of loading or un-
loading passengers at any place
other than a passenger zone (bus
stop) officially designated and
marked as a bus stop, as pro-
vided for in Section 23 hereof.
"b. The Board of Supervisors
may by resolution designate and
specify, within the City of Hllo,
the streets upon and over which
any motor vehicle common car-
rier of passengers (bus) shall
operate for the purpose of load-
ing or unloading passengers be-
ing carried for hire.
"c. After such resolution fs
passed, the operator of a motor
vehicle common carrier of pas-
sengers (bus) shall not drive ve-
hicle over any street within the
City of Hilo for the purpose of
loading or unloading passengers
being carried for hire unless
such street shall have been des-
ignated and specified for this
purpose by resolution of the
Board of Supervisors in accord-
ance with (b) supra.
"d. The provisions of this sec-
tion shall not apply to special
or chartered vehicles, school
busses or taxicabs."
Section IV. This Ordinance shall
take effect from and after date of
its approval.
