Ordinance No. ' 145
AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING
A POUND FOR THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII FOR IMPOUNDING
OF DOGS AND CATS
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD
OF SUPERVISORS IN AND FOR
THE COUNTY OF HAWAII:
Section 1. There is hereby estab-
lished a pound for the County of
Hawaii for the impounding and dis-
position of unlicensed, stray or dis-
eased dogs and cats.
Section 2. The chief administer-
ing officer of the pound shall be the
dog wm~den, who shall be appointed
by the Chairman of the Board of
Supervisors, with the approval of
the Board, and deemed a depart-
ment head under the provisions of
Chapter 2, Part III, Section 77, Sub-
section D, R. L. H. 1945. He shall re-
ceive such salary and remuneration
as may be fixed by the Board of
Supervisors of the County and he
shall be required to give official bond
in the sum of $5,000.00, conditioned
upon the faithful performance of
his duties.
Section 3. The dog warden shall
keep accurate records and shall
make a monthly report of all his
transactions and aotivities to the
Board of Supervisors, as well as such
other reports as may be required by
the Board of Supervisors. He shall
have charge, control and manage-
ment of all matters pertaining to
the Public pound; subjecC to the ap-
proval of the Board of Supervisors,
he is empowered to make all rea-
sonable rules and regulations for the
efficient management of the pound.
Section 4. He is further author-
ized and empowered to seize and
impound all stray and diseasesd cats,
all unlicensed, stray and diseased
dogs running at large, apd to dispose
of the same all in accordance with
the provisions of Chapter 134, Re-
vised Laws of Hawaii 1945, and as
hereafter amended. -
Section 5. Subject to suoh rules
and regulations as may be fixed by
the Board of Supervisors, the dog
warden is authorized to accept for
safekeeping and boarding dogs and
cats in the pound, and for such serv-
ices and costs he shall charge rea-
sonable fees as County realization.
Section 6. The dog warden or any
agent, who shall have the actual
duties of caring for, feeding, and
looking after the impounded dogs,
removing and picking up dead dogs,
cats, and other small animals from
the public streets and other public
places, and generally doing all in-
cidental work in and upon the
pound, shall be provided with suita-
ble living quarters which shall be
established in a separate building
within the pound premise.
Section 7. This Ordinance shall
take effect from and after January
2, 1946.
