OF ORDINANCE N0. 89 OF THE COUNTY OF HA;'VAII 1950, ADDING A NEW SECTION
DESIGNATED AS 1,3,01 THERETO, APdD REPEALING ALL OTHER ORDINANCES IN CON-
FLICT HEREWITH, PERTAINING TO THE REGULATION OF TRAFFIC UPON T'r~'PUBLIC
STREETS AND HIQI'~dAYS OF THE COUNTY OF HAYrAII,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD CF SUPERVISORS IP? APdD FOR THE COUNTY OF

That Ordinance No. 89 of the County of Hawaii 1950, as amended, is
hereby further amended in the following respects:
Section 1. Section 20, as amended, is hereby amended by adding
thereto Subsections {n), (o), (p), (q), and (v) to read as follows:
"(n) On the Puna side of Halaulani Street.
(o) On the makai side of Kapiolani Streetr~fxom N+aianuenue
Street to Ponahawai Street except between the hours of
5:00 a.m, to 12:00 noon on Sundays.
(p) On the Puna side of Kukuau Street between Kilauea
Street and Ululani Street.
(q) Cn the Puna side of Nawahi Lane,
(v) On the makai side of Alenaio Drive,"
Section 2, Section 5 of Ordinance No, 100 and Section 1 of Ordi-
nance No, 113 are hereby repealed.
Section 3, Section 21, Subsection (b), is hereby amended by add-
ing Paragraph 5, after Paragraph 4, to read as follows:
"5. Kamehameha Avenue from ".danono Street to Kainehe Street."
Section 1,, Section 21, Subsection (a), Paragraph 4 is hereby amended
to read as follows:
"ti,, Kamehameha Avenue, from Kainehe Street to Kilohana Street."
Section 5, Section 23 is hereby amended by adding Subsection (c),
after Subsection (b), to read as follows:
"(c) In city or street blocks where parking spaces are so
established, marked off and designated, the driver of
any vehicle, excepting on],y single vehicles of greater
length or width, shall Dark such vehicle completely
within and only in a designated space, ,~~; ~ /~

The provisions of this section ahall not be applicable
to vehicles parked in front of fire hydrants, freight
and passenger zones and in front of the entrance to
theatres and auditoriums when such parking is per-
mitted."
Section 6. Section 42 is hereby amended by changing Subsection
(d) to Subsection (e) and adding a new subsection to read as follows:
"(d) 6Uhen one vehicle is towing another and the connection
consists of a chain, rope, or cable, there shall be
displayed upon such connection a white flag or cloth
not less than 12 inches square."
Section 7. Anew section designated as Section 43.01 is hereby
added after Section 43 to read as follows:
"Section 43.01. Procedure at channelized intersections<
Where acceleration or deceleration lanes are provided
for right or left turns at unsignalized intersections, ve-
hicles shall proceed as follows:
(a) Any vehicle intending to turn right into a through
street, entrance to which is gained by means of a
right-turn acceleration lane, shall enter such through
street by way of the accleration lane so provided and
shall merge with caution into the right-hand traffic
lane of the through street without coming to a stop,
unless otherwise rrovided by official signs and pave-
ment markings. +'+henever arty vehicle traveling on a
through street shall have entered a channelized inter-
section or shall have approached the channelized in-
tersection so closely as to constitute an immediate
hazard, the vehicle traveling on the said acceleration
lane shall yield the right-of-way to the vehicle travel-
ing on the through street.
(b) Any vehicle intending to turn right from a through
street, exit from which is made by means of a right-
turn deceleration lane, shall enter the deceleration
lane and merge with caution into the right-hand traf-
fic lane of the street entered into without coming to
a stop, unless otherwise provided by official signs
'and pavement markings. The vehicle traveling on the
deceleration lane shall yield the right-of-way to any
vehicle within the above said right-hand traffic lane
which is so close as to constitute an immediate hazard.
(c) Any vehicle intending to turn left into the far-road-
way or lane of a through street shall come to a com-
plete stop and after seeing his way clear shall cross
the near-roadway or lane of such through street and
shall then proceed into the left-turn acceleration
lane designated in or near the center of the through
street and shall merge with caution into the said far-
roadway or lane without again coming to a stop, unless
otherwise provided by official signs and pavement mark-
ings. ~rdhenever any vehicle traveling on a through
street shall have entered a channelized intersection or
shall have approached the channelized intersection so
closely as to constitute an immediate hazard, the ve-
hicle traveling on the said acceleration lane shall
yield the right-of-way to the vehicles traveling on
the through street.
' (d) Any vehicle intending to turn left from a through street,
exit from which is made by means of a left-turn decelera-
tion lane designated in or near the center of the through
street, shall enter the deceleration lane and shall cross
the through street after seeing its way clear. 'Nhenever
any vehicle traveling on a through street shall have en-
tered a channelized intersection or shall have approached
the channelized intersection so closely as to constitute
an immediate hazard, the vehicle on the said decelera-
tion lane shall yield the right-of-way to the vehicle
traveling on the through street."
Section 8. Section 51, as amended, is hereby amended by adding
thereto Subsection (i), after Subsection (h), to read as follows:
"(i) KAPIOLANI STREET. All vehicular traffic shall move
only from the Hamakua to the Puna direction between
the hours of 5:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon on Sundays."
Section 9• Section 4 of Ordinance No• 113 is hereby repealed.
Section 10. Section 55, Subsection (c), Paragraph (43), as amended,
is hereby amended to read as follows:
"(43) PdAb+,ALAIIOA HICHSVAY, from k-mile bridge by way of Puna,
to the Honolii Gulch, except where it intersects the
Kanoelehua Cutoff Road, the Honokaa-to-Kapulena Road,
and the Hawaii Belt Road."
Section 11. Section 81 is hereby amended by adding thereto a new
paragraph to read as follows:
"(e) 'rhe load upon any vehicle operated alone, or the load
upon the front vehicle of a combination of vehicles,
shall not extend more than four feet beyond the front
wheels of such vehicle or the front bumper of such
vehicle if it is equipped with such a bumper."
Section 12. Section 88 is hereby amended by adding thereto a new
subsection to read as follows:
"(e) All motor vehicles shall be equipped with a stop lamp
on the rear which shall emit a red or yellow light and
which shall be actuated upon application of the service
(foot) brake, and which may but need not be incorporated
with a tail lamp. Said stop lamp shall be plainly vis-
ible and understandable from a distance of 100 feet to
the rear both during normal sunlight and at night time."
Section 13. This ordinance shall take effect upon its approval.
