ORDINANCE NO, /(a /
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 3 OF ORDINANCE NO, 160 OF
THE COUNTY OF HAWAII, RELATING TO SEWER SERVICE CHARGES,
' Section 1. Section 3 of Ordinance No, 160 of the
County of Hawaii is hereby amended to read as follows:
"Section 3, SCHEDULE OF RATES. The tenant and/or
owner of each lot, parcel of land, building, dwelling
unit or premises shall be responsible and liable severally
and jointly for the payment of the sewer service charge
based upon the following schedule or rates:
a. Monthly charge for private dwelling units
shall be computed on the basis of the number of fixtures
and shall be the sum total of the monthly charges for
fixtures as listed below, provided, however, the
minimum charge shall be not less than $1..00 per month
per dwelling unit. :I

Each additional toilet 0.15
Each urinal 0,08
Each shower or tub or
combination shower & tub 0,15
Each lavatory 0,08
First kitchen sink 0.15
Each additional kitchen sink 0,08
Each laundry tub or automatic
wash connection 0,15

Each additional floor drain 0,08
Each drinking fountain 0,08
b, Multiple dwelling with two or more dwelling
units - a flat rate of $1.00 per month for each dwelling
unit; provided, however, that where any such dwelling
unit is continuously unoccupied during the whole of
any calendar month, no charge shall be made for such

calendar month.
c. Hotels, boarding houses and rooming houses $0.40
per rentable space per month, with a minimum charge of
not less than $3.00 per month for each hotel, boarding
house or rooming house.
d. Office buildings, stores, garages and service
'stations, other business and business buildings not
enumerated herein, colleges, schools, dormitories,
fraternal lodge, buildings, hospitals and other like
buildings except as herein specifically named shall be
computed on the basis of the number of the fixtures
as set forth in paragraph (a) with a minimum charge
of not less than $1.00 per month each for any of the
foregoing.
e. Restaurants, soda fountains and bars operating
on a commercial basis - for waste discharged into the
public sewer $0.05 per 1,000 gallons with a minimum
charge of $1.25 per month for each of the foregoing.
f. Laundries and dry cleaning establishments -
for waste discharged into the public sewer $0.05 per 1,000
gallons.
g. Industries - for waste discharged in the public
sewer $0.05 per 1,000 gallons.
h. In lieu of the rates specified in e, f, and
g above, the Chief Engineer may establish a flat rate
for sewer service, based upon the average monthly
discharge into the sewerage system during the six
month period preceding the effective date of said
sewer service charge. This flat rate shall be reviewed
annually.

percentage of the volume and amount of the water actually
consumed and drawn through the water consumption meters
of the Board of YVater Supply of the County of Hawaii.
In making this determination, the Chief Engineer shall
take into consideration, but shall not limit himself
,to, the type of industry, business or process used by
said industry or business. The decision of the Chief
Engineer shall be final in all cases.
Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect on
October 1, 1955.
