,.'AN GRDINANCE RELATING TO THE CONSTRUCTION OF FALLOUT SHELTERS,
` AMENDING SECTION L}Oi(f) OF THE UNIFORM BUILDING CODE, 19<F6
EDITION, AS ADOPTED BY ORDINANCE NO. 39, AND AMENDING SECTION
1L} OF ORDINANCE N0. 39, REVISED ORDINANCES OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII 1960, AS AMENDED.
BE IT ORllAINED BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS IN AND FOR THE
COUNTY GF HAWAII:
Section 1. Section ~}O1(f) of the Uniform Building
Code, 19l}6 Edition, providing for definitions and abbreviations,
as adopted by Ordinance No. 39, Revised Ordinance of the
County of Hawaii 1960, as amended, is hereby amended by
adding thereto the following term, to be appropriately
categorized under the alphabet "F":
"Fallout shelters is a structure or building
whose primary purpose is to attenuate radiation
within limits prescribed by the Civil Defense Agency."
Section 2. Section ll} of Ordinance No. 39, Revised
Ordinances of the County of Hawaii 1960, as amended by
Section 2 of Ordinance No. 66 and Section 1 of Ordinance No.
9;}, relating to buildine permit fees, is further amended by
adding the following paragraph thereto:
"Notwithstanding the provisions of Section 303
of the Uniform Building Code, 1916 Edition, relating
to building permit fees, any person, firm or corporation
constructing a fallout shelter shall not be charged a
building permit fee for the construction of a structure
to be used exclusively as a fallout shelter, or that

portion of a structure to be occupied exclusively as
a fallout shelter."
Section j. This ordinance shall take effect upon its
approval.
