ORDINANCE NO. 112
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 25 OF THE REVISED
ORDINANCES OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII 1y60, AS AMENDED, BY
ADDING SECTION 120.01 THERETO, RELATING TO TRAFFIC, BY
REGULATING THE USE OF LOUD SPEAKER OR MEGAPHONE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISGRS OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Ordinance No. 25 of the Revised Ordinances
of the County of Hawaii 1960, as amended, is hereby further
amended by adding thereto Section 120.01 to read as fellows;
"SECTION 120.01. Loud speaker or megaphone regulated.
"(a) As used in this section, loud speaker or
megaphone shall mean and include any magnifying sound
instrument or device used in the production or repro-
duction of music, spoken v/erds or other sounds, or
other sound amplifying device designed to enlarge the
volume of sound produced by any instrument or by the
human voice, which instrument or device is used for
the purpose of advertisinc or calling attention to
any article, thing, or event, or for the purpose of
addressing the public or of attracting the attention
of the public; provided that these terms shall not
include the follewino:
"(1) Arr~plifying device within sight-seeing
cars, busses, motcr coaches, or other similar
vehicles, designed primarily to address passengers
within such vehicles, and the sound therefrom
primarily confined withir. the body of such
vehicles.

~'(2) Radios and phonographs within the
body of any vehicle designed for persons within
the vehicle, and the sound therefrom primarily
confined within the body of such vehicle.
"(b) No person shall operate any loud speaker
or megaphone from any vehicle on any public street cr
highway on Sundays, or between the hours of 6:00 otclock
p.m. and 2;00 otcloc}t p.m. in any other day of the week.
°(c) The chief of police or his authorized
representative may issue permits for the use of loud
speaker or megaphone from any vehicle ir. a parade or
motorcade conducted within the period 6;00 otclock p.m,
and 2;00 otclock p.m. In no event shall he issue permit
For the use of megaphone or loud speaker on Sundays."
SECTION 2. This ordinance shall take effect upon its
approval.

"(3) Amplifying devices on ice cream vendor's
cart or vehicle used in connection with the sale
of ice cream.
"(4) Amplifying devices on all authorized
emergency vehicles.
"(b) No person shall operate any loud speaker or
megaphone from any vehicle on any public street or
highway on Sundays, or between the hours of 6:00 o'clock
p.m. and 2:00 o'clock p.m. in any othez day of the week.
"(c) The chief of police or his authorized repre-
sentative may issue permits for the use of loud speaker
or megaphone from any vehicle in a parade or motorcade
conducted within the period from 6;00 o'clock p.m. to
2:00 o'clock p.m. In no event shall he issue permits
for the use of megaphone or loud speaker on Sundays."
SECTION 2. This ordinance shall take effect upon its
approval.
