ORDINANCE N0. 172
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE N0. 25 OF THE REVISED ORDINANCES OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII 1960, AS AMENDED, BY ADDING PARAGRAPH (z} TO SECTION 2 AND ADDING
SECTION 90.19 A THERETO, RELATING TO TRAFFIC, BY REGULATING THE USE OF FLASHING
AMBER LIGHTS ON VEHICLES.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Section 2 of Ordinance No. 25 0£ the Revised Ordinances of
the County of Hawaii 1960 is hereby amended by adding Subsection (z} to read
as follows:
"(z) ~ecial Hazard Vehicles. Types o£ vehicles which a:re engaged
in activities which create special hazards upon the highways
including highway maintenance vehicles used by highway au-
thorities when working on the highway, public utility vehicles
when necessarily parked other than adjacent to the curb in a
highway for purposes of working on faci7_ities, trucks actually
engaged in the towing o£ houses or buildings, any pilot car
required by permit issued by highway authorities while actually
engaged in the movement o£ extralegal-si_ze vehicles or loads,
tow cars while preparing a vehicle for towing and while towing
a disabled vehicle, vehicles used for mosquito abatement con-
trol when dispersing insecticides and other vehicles creating
special hazards which may be designated by the Chief of Police."
SECTION 2. Ordinance 25 of the Revised Ordinances of the County of Hawaii,
1960, as amended, is hereby further amended by adding Section 90.19 A after
Section 90.19 to read as follows:
"Section 90.19 A. Visual signals on special hazard vehicles. Every
special hazard vehicle shall display flashing amber warning lamps which
shall be visible to the front, sides and rear. The lamps may be of a
revolving or oscillating type having a projected luminous lens or dome
area of not less than 16.0 square inches. Flashing warning lamps, when
used, shall operate at a rate of 60 to 120 flashes per minute and shall
meet the required lamp standards established by the Chief of Police."
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon its approval.
