ORDINANCE NO. 203
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 53 OF THE REVISED ORDINANCES
OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII 1960, PERTAINING TO THE INCREASE IN THE
MEMBERSHIP OF THE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSIONS IN CERTAIN
GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRICTS..
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVI~JRS IN AND FOR THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Section 3 of Ordinance No. 53 of the Revised
Ordinances of the County of Hawaii 1960 is hereby amended
to read as follows:
"Section 3, Parks and Recreation Commission.
There is hereby created a Parks and Recreation Commission
for each of the following geographical districts to
consist of a membership as hereafter enumerated:
(a) District of North Kohala 7 members
(b) District of South Kohala 7 members
(c) District of North Kona 9 members
(d) District of South Kona 9 members
(e) District of Kau 9 members
(f) District of Puna 11 members
(g) District of Hamakua 7 members
(h) District of North Hilo 7 members
(i) City of Hilo 13 members
- (j) District of South Hilo,
outside of the City of Hilo 7 members
The Chairman and Executive Officer of the Board of
Supervisors shall, with the approval of the said Boarci,
appoint the members of each commission who shall be
residents of the geographical district for which they
are appointed. The members of each commission shall

serve without pay, but may be reimbursed for any
traveling expenses incurred in the performance of their
official duties. Each commission shall annually select
its own chairman from the members thereof and meetings
shall be called at the discretion of the chairman."
SECTION 2. The term of office of the members in each
commission increased by this ordinance where otherwise unprovided
shall be as follows;
(a) Of the two (2) members increase in each of the
Parks and Recreation Commissions of the Districts
of North Kona, South Kona and Kau, one (i) shall
be appointed for a term ending at noon on January 2,
1961, and one (i) shall be appointed for a term
ending at noon on January 2, 1965.
(b) Of the four (1~) members increase in each of the
Parks and Recreation Commissions of the District
of Puna and the City of Hilo, two (2) shall be
appointed for a term ending at noon on January 2,
196l~, and two (2) shall be appointed for a term
ending at noon on January 2, 1965.
(c) Thereafter all appointments shall be for a two (2)
year term from the date of expiration of the term
from which the predecessors were appointed, and
in a like method providing for subsequent appoint-
ments in Section ~I- of Ordinance No. 53. Any vacancy
shall be filled by appointment for the remainder of
the unexpired term.
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon its
approval.
