ORDIIANCE NO. 21.2
AN ORDINANCE PERTAINING TO TiiE POUND, ESTABI_ISHIIvG ITS
MANAGEMENTS AND FUNCTIONS, AND REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. ~~
OF THE REVISED ORllINANCES OF THE COUDITY OF IIA';iAII 1960.

COUNTY GF liA'~JAII:
SECTIOTI 1. There; is hereby established a pound for tine
County of Hawaii for the impounding of and disposition of
unlicensed, lost, stray, homeless or diseased dogs, for the
destruction or other disposition of seized dogs, not redeemed,
as provided by Chapter 156, Revised Laws of Hawaii 1955, and any
subsequent legislation amendatory thereto, and for sheltering
and disposing of Lost, unclaimed, stray, homeless or diseased
cats and other small animals.
SECTION 2. The pound shall be under the direction, control
and administration of the Hawaii Police Department, and for
such purposes, the Chief of Police or any of his designated
~ subordinates is hereb;r designated as the chief dog warden.
He or his designated subordinates is empowered to make all
reasonable rules and regulations for the efficient management
f ~ of the pound.

SECTION 3. "rne pound shall be staffed and manned by a
sufficient number of dog wardens, to be employee pursuant to
the provisions of Chapter 3, Revised Laws of Hawaii 1955, utho
shall have powers of a police officer while carrying out the
provisions of Chapter 156, Revised Laws of Hawaii 1955, and any
subsequent legislation amendatory thereto, pertaining to the
re~julation of dogs.

SECTION CY. The dog wardens
(a) shall enforce and comply with the provisions contained.
in Chapter 156, Revised Lads of Hawaii 1955, and any other
subsequent legislation amendatory thereto, pertaining to the
regulation of dogs,
(b) may seize and impound any stray or diseased cats
and dispose of them in the same method or fashion as provided
in Chapter 156, Revised Latins of Hawaii 1955, and any subsequent
legislation amendatory thereto, pertaining to the disposition
of stray or diseased dogs,
(c) is authorized to accept for safe keeping or boarding
dogs, cats and other small animals in the pound and for such
services and costs, a reasonable fee shall be promulgated by
the said department, which fee shall be county realization,
{d) shall care for, feed and loon aftE:r dogs, cats and
other small animals in its custody.
SECTION 5. Ordinance Ne. Ifs is hereby repealed.
SECTIUN 6. ror the purposes of administration and direction,
all personnel of the Department of the Pound is forthwith
transferred to the 1Ia~sraii Felice Department.
SECTION 7. This ordinance shall take effect upon its
approval.
