ORDINANCE NO. 267 AN ORDINANCE AMEIQDING SECTION )+2 OF ORDINANCE NO. 25, TRAFFIC CODE, OF THE REVISED ORDINANCES OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII 1y60, AS AMENDED, PERTAINING TO OVERTAKING AND PASSING SCHOOL BUS. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS iN AND FOR THE COUNTY OF HAWAII; SECTION 1. Section 1.+2 of Ordinance No. 25, Traffic Code, of the County of Hawaii, is hereby amended to read as follows; "SECTION 1~2. Overtaking and passing school. bus. "(a) Every bus used for the transportation of school children shall be equipped with alternately flashing red lights visible to the front and rear of said bus. The driver of any vehicle upon meeting or overtaking from either direction any school bus which has stopped for the purpose of receiving or discharging any school children and displays a flashing red signal shall. briny such vehicle to a stop before passing the school bus and shall not proceed past the school bus until the red flashing signal ceases operation, "(b) It shall be the responsibility of the driver of every bus used for the transportation of school children to operate said red lights continuously while children are crossing to or from the school bus or at any other time when passing traffic is considered hazardous for the children, These lights need not be operated when children are not to cross the roadway, and shall not be operated when. the school bus is stopped in a bus loading zone, place where traffic is controlled by a i:raffic officer or official traffic control signal, and while the bus is in motion. .r r.. No, ._._~.~~~ --..~ ,,, , ., F,~~, r.~ ..---~--------...-~--- - ~ yon,--~ yv~ -i~sa r~ ~:.y ~ ~-. r 6~ -1370 ,~U~"~~ 7~~---~ JUL 1 ~~ ?:;;;.~ "(c) The driver of a vehicle upon a highway with separate roadways need not stop upon meeting or passing a school bus ~•~hich is upon the other roadway, "(d) Every school bus used for the transportation of school children shall bear upon the front and rear thereon a plainly visible sign contain3.ng the words SCHOOL BUSS in letters not less than 1.0 inches :in height and in strokes not less than 3/1a_ inch in width, and the words ESTOP ON FLASHING RED LIGHTS in letters not less than 6 inches in height and in strokes of not less than 1/2 inch in taidth. "(e) When a school bus is being operated upon the highway for purposes other than the actual transportation of children either to or from school on school days, all markings thereon indicating SCHOOL BUSS and ESTOP OP; FLASHING RED LIGHTS shall be covered or concealed."
