ORDINANCE N0. 113
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE N0. 59, REVISED ORDINANCES
OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII 1967, RELATING TO THE ELECTRICAL CODE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Section 2-A of Ordinance No, 59, Revised
Ordinances of the County of Hawaii 1967, is hereby amended by
the addition of a new paragraph to read as follows:
"11. The construction, alteration or repair
of electrical devices commonly used in the home
such as T.`/, sets, radios, tape recorders, movie
projectors and the like."
SECTION 2. Subsections G, L and ~ of Section 3 of
Ordinance No. 59, Revised Ordinances of the County of Hawaii
1967, are hereby amended to read as follows:
"G. Electrical Specialty Contractor. Any person
who has been certified by the Examining Board and is
registered with the Department to do business as an
electrical specialty contractor and enters into contracts
with property owners or contractors for the performance
of electrical work related to installing, repairing,
altering and maintaining, but not the attachment of
lighting and power circuits to, the following: (1)
electronic equipment, sound public address systems
and communication systems; (2) master or community
radio and television receivin antenna systems;
(3) sound recording systems; ~4) burglar and fire
alarm systems; (5) low voltage remote control; and
(6} low voltage communication signal systems."
"L. Journeyman Specialty Electrician. Any person
who has been certified by the Examining Board and is
registered with tiie Department as a journeyman specialty
electrician to perform electrical work related to
installing, repairing, altering and maintaining, but
not the attachment of lighting and power circuits to,
the following: (1) electronic equipment, sound public
address systems and communications systems; (2) master
or community Sadie and television receiving antenna
systems; (3) sound recording systems; (4) burglar and
fire alarm systems; (5) low voltage remote control; and
(6) low voltage communication signal systems."

"Q. Supervising Specialty Electrician. Any person
who has been certified by the Examining Board and is
registered with the Department as a supervising specialty
electrician to direct and supervise the performance of
electrical work related to installing, repairing,
altering and maintaining, but not the attachment of
lighting and power circuits, to the following: (1)
electronic equipment, sound public address systems and
communications systems; (2) master or community radio
and television receiving antenna systems; (3) sound
recording systems; (4) burglar and fire alarm systems;
(5) low voltage remote control; and (6) low voltage
communication signal systems."
SECTION 3. Paragraphs 7 and 9 of Section 5-A of
Ordinance No. 59, Revised Ordinances of the County of Hawaii
1967, are hereby repealed.
SECTION 4. Paragraph 8 of Section 5-A of Ordinance
No. 59, Revised Ordinances cif the County of Hawaii 1967, is
hereby amended to read as follows:
"8. Radio and television receiving antenna
systems other than master or community systems."
SECTION 5. Paragraph 2 of Section 18-F of Ordinance
No. 59, Revised Ordinances of the County of Hawaii 1967, is
hereby amended to read as follows:
"2. Examinations. The Board shall examine
applicants for certification as supervising electrician,
supervising specialty electrician, journeyman electrician,
journeyman specialty electrician and motion picture
operator and shall submit to the Department the names cf
applicants who have qualified for certification as
supervising electrician, supervising specialty electrician,
journeyman electrician, journeyman specialty electrician
and motion picture operator by passing the examination
therefor prescribed by the Board ~~~ith a grade of sev:,nty
(7C) cr more. Provided, however, that, if any applicant.
for certification as supervising specialty electrician
and journeyman specialty electrician was engaged in a
bona fide manner as supervising specialty electrician
and journeyman specialty electrician prior to the date
of adoption of t}ris ordinance, in the County of Hawaii
and has been so r~ngaged since that date, the Board shall
iss.~e such certifica-lion without exarninati.on, if application
for such certification is made t:o the Board as provided
under this Code and within ninety (90) days after this
amendment shall take effect. Gtherwise, the application
for such certification shall be decided in accordance
ws$r the procedure provided in this Code and such
certification shall be issued or denied accordingly.
Pendino, the determination of such application, the
continuance of employment in the several specialties
concerned shall be laJ/ful."
SECTION 6. Subsection ;; of Section 18 of Ordinance PJo. 59,
Revised Ordinances of the County of Ha~~/aii 1967, as amender,' by
Ordinance No. 87, is hereby further amended to read as follows:

"A. Composition, There is hereby created a
Board of Electrical Examiners, hereinafter referred
to as the Board, consisting of seven members.
~~ Membership of the Board shall include
three supervising electricians, one representative
from the utility industry, one supervising specialty
electrician, the Administrative Authority and the
senior member inspector; provided, that on the first
appointment a person without a supervising specialty
electrician license may be appointed to the Board.
The Administrative Authority and senior member
inspector shall be ex-officio members with voice
but no vote. The members of the Board other than
the Administrative Authority and senior member inspector
shall not be government employees and shall be appointed
by the Chairman and Executive Officer of the County
with the app.rova]. of the Board of Supervisors.
"The 3oard shall elect a chairman and a vice-
chairman, The vice-chairman shall act as the chairman
in the temporary absence or disability of the chairman,
The Administrative Authority shall provide a secretary
for the Board."
SECTION 7, This Ordinance shall take effect upon
its approval,
