RESOLUTION NO. 341 00
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE OFFICE OF THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO AN
AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, PURSUANT TO
HRS 46-7, FOR A PIIHONUA HOUSELOTS COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION/ SPEED CHECKING
PROJECT GRANT.
WHEREAS, the State Department of Transportation has authorized funding to reduce
traffic accidents on Waianuenue Avenue by conducting speed enforcement roadblocks and
preventing other hazardous traffic violations; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Police Department is ready and willing to proceed
with its obligations for the Piihonua Houselots Community Association/ Speed Checking
Project Grant, and
WHEREAS, Hawaii Revised Statutes, Section 46-7, requires that the county
departments obtain the consent of the council to enter into agreement with the federal or
state governments respecting action to be taken pursuant to any of the powers grants by
law to furnish, expend and receive any funds or other assistance in connection with
projects being or to be under taken pursuant to those powers.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the County of Hawaii that
the Office of the Mayor if authorized to enter into an Agreement with the Department of
Transportation, State of Hawaii to prevent traffic accidents by preventing speeding and
other hazardous traffic violations on Waianuenue Avenue.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor of the County of Hawai'i is authorized to
sign the above -referenced agreement and any related documents on behalf of the Office of
the Mayor and the County of Hawai'i pursuant to the Hawai'i County Charter.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawai'i shall transmit
copies of this resolution to the Finance Department and Police Department.
