AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ARTICLE 9 (STOP AND YIELD INTERSECTIONS -
SPECIAL STOPS) OF ORDINANCE NO. 39 (TRAFFIC CODE), REVISED
ORDINANCES OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII 1967, AS AMENDED, BY THE
ADDITION OF NEW PARAGRAPHS AND SUBPARAGRAPHS THERETO
DESIGNATING STOP AND TURN RIGHT ANYTIME WITH CAUTION
INTERSECTIONS.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Section 9-3 of Ordinance No. 39, Revised
Ordinances of the County of Hawaii 1967, as amended, is
hereby amended to read as follows:
"(a) Whenever any ordinance of this County
designates and describes a through street or stop
intersection, it shall be the duty of the County
and/or Chief Engineer to place and maintain stop
and/or yield signs on each and every street inter-
secting such through street and at every stop
intersection unless traffic at any such intersection
is controlled at all times by traffic-control
signals. The Highway Safety Council may recommend
when said yield signs may be substituted for stop
signs.
"(b) The following are hereby established and
designated as stop intersections and shall be
effective when appropriate signs giving notice thereof
are erected at the locations indicated hereunder:
"1. Hamakua
1-1. At the southwest and southeast
corners of the intersection of
Mamalahoa Highway and the
plantation road near the Paauhau
Sugar Company manager's home.

1-2. At the intersection of Lehua and
Plumeria Streets facing the makai
bound traffic on Lehua Street.
1-3. At the northeast corner of Mamalahoa
Highway and the plantation road near
the Paauhau Sugar Company manager's
home."
SECTION 2. Section 9-7 of Ordinance No. 39, Revised
Ordinances of the County of Hawaii 1967, as amended, is
hereby amended to read as follows:
"(a) When official TURN RIGHT ANYTIME WITH
CAUTION signs are erected at any intersection, the
driver of a vehicle may make a right turn movement
without coming to a stop provided such movement is
made with proper care to avoid an accident.
"(b) The following are hereby established as
Turn Right Anytime With Caution intersections and
shall be effective when appropriate signs giving
notice thereof are erected at the locations
indicated hereunder:
"1. Hamakua
1-1. At the northeast corner of
Mamalahoa Highway and the
plantation road near the Paauhau
Sugar Company manager's home."
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon its
approval.
